Differentiated Learning Using Shared Database Schemas
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we describe the use of shared database schemas in teaching database practice. We have implemented demonstration systems that can be used flexibly to demonstrate a range of database principles applicable to larger systems. This has enabled us to differentiate student experience, highlight the differences between stand alone and enterprise level database systems and to differentiate academic and technical learning between students at different levels. The technical and resourcing requirements are also described.

Database Schema Matching Using Machine Learning with Feature Selection
Schema matching, the problem of finding mappings between the attributes of two semantically related database schemas, is an important aspect of many database applications such as schema integration, data warehousing, and electronic commerce. Unfortunately, schema matching remains largely a manual, labor-intensive process. Furthermore, the effort required is typically linear in the number of sch...
متن کاملSemantic Coordination of Heterogeneous Classifications Schemas
One of the key challenges in the development of open distributed systems is enabling the exchange of meaningful information across applications which (i) may use autonomously developed schemas for organizing locally available data, and (ii) need to discover relations between schemas to achieve their users’ goals. Typical examples are databases using different schemas, and document repositories ...
متن کاملClassifier System Learning of Good Database Schema
This thesis presents an implementation of a learning classifier system which learns good database schema. The system is implemented in Java using the NetBeans development environment, which provides a good control for the GUI components. The system contains four components: a user interface, a rule and message system, an apportionment of credit system, and genetic algorithms. The input of the s...
متن کاملOWLRel: Learning Rich Ontologies from Relational Databases
Mapping between ontologies and relational databases is a necessity in realising the Semantic Web vision. Most of the work concerning this topic has either (1) extracted OWL schemas using a limited range of OWL modelling constructs from relational schemas, or (2) extracted relational schemas from OWL schemas, that represent the OWL schemas as much as possible. By contrast, we propose a general f...
